Muslim Youth Enjoy A Day Of Activity & Learning

The Youth of Durban converged at Hartley Road Primary School in Overport for the ‘6-A-Side Soccer Tournament’ hosted by the Darul Ihsan Centre’s ‘Youth of the Ummah’ division on Saturday, 01 March 2014. The youth, who were accompanied by their respective team leaders and Ulama, participated in the arranged football fixture and other development activities.

A total of twenty four teams comprising two divisions of boys under 13 (14 teams) and under 16 (10 teams) competed against each other in an exciting and jubilant day of soccer. The programme ‘kicked-off’ at 9:00 am and ended at 4:30 pm. The participants, numbering almost 200 were drawn from many different areas and included participation from Madrasahs, Muslim schools and Islamic institutes.

About fifty facilitators comprising Ulama, staff members of Darul Ihsan Centre and coaches representing their respective teams oversaw the smooth running of the programme. Lunch and refreshments were provided for all participants followed by Zuhr Salah

After Zuhr Salah some relevant advices were given followed by a brief Q & A session. The participants were constantly reminded of their Islamic identity in terms of dress code and behaviour both on and off the field.

The programme concluded with a prize giving to the winning teams and the runners-up of both divisions.

Alhamdulillah, despite the summer heat, the youth thoroughly enjoyed the activities of the day and there was positive feedback from the coaches who were ‘most impressed’ with the organising of the tournament and expressed the need for it to be a regular event.
